Ras Cuba Documentary

Ras Cuba Documentary

Produced and Directed by Susanne Moss, she shines a light on Cuban Rastafarians and how they challenge the Cuban status quo. Rastas in Cuba endure considerable hardships because of their spiritual revolutionary and somewhat unconventional lifestyle. Cuban history teaches that Haile Selassie (recognized by Rastas as the Black living representative Elect of God) was an evil dictator; therefore the government forbids any spiritual practices pertaining to Rastafarianism.

In Cuba conformity is encouraged and patriotism overrides heritage, also Cuban Reggae music is neither officially recognized nor supported. The Cuban Rastas in this documentary express their personal understanding of Rasta Consciousness, while living in a society that makes them hide their personal beliefs. They wish to connect to the International Rastafarian Community for the purpose of greater knowledge and mutual understanding. Spanish with English subtitles, Approx. running time 45 mins.
